Whether you’re on vacation or business trip, we all want to have a good night rest after a long day. Unfortunately, sometimes there are few things like dinging elevators and pajama parties happening down the hall. Though, it can be avoided, you just need to know how. Here are a few tips.
- During booking or reservation, request for a room midway along a hallway. It’s said to be the quietest part of the floor because it’s away from guest laundry facilities, exits, and housekeeping closets.
- While it might be pretty to have a room facing the pool but it’s most late-night gathering places even though it’s past the closing time.
- Request for a room at least two to three level away from banquet rooms, bars and other public spaces because those thumping bass beats can penetrate quite a few floors.
- If you are a non-smoker, get a non-smoking floor as the scent of old cigarette smoke can keep you awake and make you feel uncomfortable.
- Always get two separate beds if you are bunking with a friend. Their sleeping habits - such as tossing and turning - may interrupt your sleep, especially if you’re a light-sleeper.
- Bring your own eyeshades if you know you need to sleep in complete darkness.
- Pack a pillow mist along in your suitcase. Calming scent such as lavender can be soothing, so feel free to make your room smell like a spa.
- Some say a glass of wine before bed helps but don’t be intoxicated by it. If wine isn’t your thing, try sipping a small cup of warm, non-caffeinated beverage such as chamomile tea.
- If you are planning to sleep in till late the next day, hang “Do Not Disturb” sign at the doorknob to avoid housekeepers knocking on your door in the morning.
- Warm bath helps to relax and lower your body temperature slightly, which may encourage better sleep.
- If you must have the TV on before bed, avoid watching controversial shows such as horror flick and war documentaries that may keep your mind active throughout the night.
- Take a few long deep breaths to help relax and unwind tense muscles.
- Don’t force it if you can’t sleep. Get out of bed and do some simple reading (non-electronics) until you are ready to try again.
