Wait, Lang what? There’s another island open for public off the coast of Terengganu? Oh yes, in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2014, it’s time to welcome the adorable Lang Tengah Island with a big, warm hug.
Stuck in the middle of Pulau Redang and Pulau Perhentian, it’s no wonder that this beautiful island goes unheard by many non-divers. Almost felt as if it was left out of the picture because everyone was fixing their eyes onto the two other more commercial islands.
Lang Tengah Island is two times smaller than its big brothers but also features a breathtaking sceneries of crystal clear seawater, white sandy beaches and an untouched tropical jungle. It’s much quieter and less developed but appeals to those honeymooners and travellers who are looking for a tranquil and peaceful tropical island getaway.

It’s located about 40km north east of Kuala Terengganu on the east coast of peninsular Malaysia. The island can be reached by speedboat from Merang (not to be confused with Marang, located in south of Kuala Terengganu), which is about 45 minutes drive north of Kuala Terengganu. The speedboat departures are pre-arranged with your resort and will take approximately 45 minutes to arrive depending on the weather. The schedules are usually two departures during peak season (July to September) and one departure in off-peak season. Transfer cost about RM95 return or charter a boat for RM400 (estimated) one way from Merang.
The island is so small that it consist only four resort hotels. The best and most expensive hotel would be Sari Pacifica Resort and Spa. This boutique resort comes with a total of 50 rooms available with rates starting from RM700 per night with full board meals. Just a minute walk away from Sari Pacifica, you’ll find D’Coconut Lagoon Resort. The rates are way cheaper, starts from about RM200 depending on season and room but the beach is not as pristine and they do have daily 3 hour power cut-off for off-peak months (February, March and October). For those on a budget or backpackers, try looking at Redang Lang Island Resort and Lang Sari Resort for their starting rates are from RM100.
The monsoon from October to March makes the seas rough but other than a rough boat ride, diving and snorkelling can still be fun in the low season.
