[AUSTRALIA] 10 TOP RATED SPOTS TO SEE WILD FLOWERS IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA

World famous for its dazzling wildflowers, Western Australia is home to the largest collection on Earth, carpeted in the colourful blooms of more than 12,000 species, 60 per cent of which can’t be found anywhere else on the planet. Wildflower season begins in June in the north of the State and sweeps south, finishing on the south coast in November. Check out the hotspots.

#1 Lane Poole Reserve

Lane Poole Reserve is a nature lover’s paradise. With its extensive network of bushwalking tracks along the Murray River, it is a favourite recreation spot for West Australians. In spring, the forest fills with wonderful West Australian wildflowers and in autumn you can hear the bird calls echo through the early morning mist.

#2 D'Entrecasteaux National Park

D'Entrecasteaux National Park combines pristine beaches and tall forests in a spectacular landscape along the southern coastline. Go bushwalking through dense forest and coastal tracks, or four wheel driving through sand dunes. In spring, you'll be rewarded with beautiful wildflowers.

#3 Greens Pool

One of Mother Nature's most inviting swimming pools, Greens Pool is among Western Australia's most iconic beaches. A long and peaceful walk along this stunning coastline rewards you with breath taking views of Madfish Bay, Waterfall Beach and an abundance of wildflowers in spring.

#4 Kings Park and Botanic Garden

One of the largest inner-city parks in the world, Kings Park and Botanic Garden covers 400 hectares of Perth's heart with serene natural bushland and sculpted gardens. The first park to be designated for public use in Australia (in 1872), Kings Park is also home to the State War Memorial and State Botanic Garden. It showcases 1,700 unique native species and a dazzling display of wildflowers in spring, celebrated with the annual Kings Park Festival in September

#5 Cape Le Grand National Park

There aren’t too many places in Australia where kangaroos sunbake on the beach, but at Cape Le Grand National Park this is just one of the many natural highs on offer.
This pristine park near Esperance is known for its stunning scenery and idyllic beaches where you can go swimming, bushwalking, fishing and camping. In spring Cape Le Grand National Park bursts into colour as wildflowers bloom, including groves of banksia.

#6 Coalseam Conservation Park

Coalseam Conservation Park showcases spectacular bushland with a vast array of Mother Nature's finest offerings on display. It is difficult to miss the explosion of colour during the spring wildflower season. A stunning collection of flowers including Everlastings, Banksias, Hakeas and Grevilleas will ensure an explosion of colour to delight your senses.

#7 Wave Rock

One of Australia's biggest waves is also the furthest from any ocean - Wave Rock rises 15 metres above the outback plain. Located near the Wheatbelt town of Hyden, getting there from Perth is a pleasant 340-kilometre drive (approximately three to four hours) through picturesque rolling farmlands to wide vistas of wheat and canola fields. After winter rains, you'll be surrounded by a sea of dazzling colour as Western Australian wildflowers bloom in their billions.

#8 Cape Range National Park

Situated on the west side of Exmouth’s North West Cape is the Cape Range National Park; a spectacular landscape of rugged limestone ranges, breathtaking deep canyons and 60 kilometres of pristine beaches. As a result of this geographic isolation, there are several species of plants and animals entirely endemic to the area, including the white centred variety of the Sturt’s desert pea and the beautiful green bird flower. Surveys have recorded over 630 species of wildflowers within the Cape Range National Park.

#9 Kalbarri National Park

Over 183,000 hectares of outback adventures, dramatic gorges and dazzling wildflowers make Kalbarri National Park one of Western Australia's most popular places to visit. To see the park ablaze with the colours of spring, visit between July and October. Over 1,100 varieties of wildflowers are found there, from Grevilleas to feather flowers.

#10 Fitzgerald River National Park

The pristine wilderness of Fitzgerald River National Park on the southern coast is perfect for anyone with a love of nature and a thirst for adventure. It’s now recognised as one of the most diverse botanical regions on earth with around 1,800 species of flowering plants alone. In spring, the landscape is dotted with colourful wildflowers including banksias, hakeas, bottlebrush, feather flowers, Quaalup bell and many others.
