#1 Miramar
If you are looking to try authentic Portuguese food, this is the place to be when visiting Macau. The reviews for Miramar is off the charts, people love the food and the feel of the place. A cozy restaurant that’s perfect for a group meal, preferred in fact as the servings here are generally in a bigger portion. Of course, if you’d love to take your partner on a date, that works too, just keep in mind of the food portion.
It’s located on Hac Sa Beach, Coloane, quite a distance from Macau Peninsula, the town area where tourists usually spawns but I have to say from a personal experience, the food is worth the drive. Is best to book this place in advance and check out their website for their menu.
Must try: Chef Style Clams, Octopus Salad, Lamb, Croquettes, Serradura "Pudim".
Address: Zona Norte Praia de Hác Sá, Coloane
In the video, towards the end, after taking the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge to Macao from Hong Kong, I had my dinner at Miramar.
#2 Albergue 1601
Fine dining at its finest, Albergue 1601 is the place to be. Located in a yellow colonial courtyard building in the historic St. Lazarus Quarter, Albergue serves local Portugues and Macanese delights. The rustic feel of the place is amazing as it’s one of the best preserved historical neighbourhoods in Macao. You literally get to dine in heritage.
When I got to experience the restaurant myself, the menu is believed to have changed from what most reviews online recommended in the past. Still, the new menu is pretty good. Definitely a great date place before enjoying a little sightseeing nearby. Trust me, you should take a stroll around the area after your meal.
Must try: Caldo Verde (Traditional Potato and Kale Soup), Arroz De Pato No Forno (Baked Duck Rice), Drunken Pear Poached in Port Wine.
Address: 8 Calçada da Igreja de São Lázaro, Macau
#3 Fontana, Wynn Palace Cotai
In Wynn Palace, everyone is treated like royalty. It’s one of the most grand buffet restaurants I’ve ever seen. You’ll not only be served with the best seasonal ingredients and the freshest seafood spread, you’ll also be offered a table with picturesque look at the idyllic Performance Lake where there are constant fountain performances throughout the night to entertain you. If you are lucky, you’ll even get to watch a water performance that dances along to the music you hear in the restaurant.
Must try: EVERYTHING and I was told that you shouldn’t miss out on their Banana Ice Cream.
Address: Avenida Da Nave Desportiva, Cotai
#4 Kam In Traditional Macao baked products
Kam In sells the perfect souvenirs to bring home. Something local, something traditional, and every cookies sold are still handmade. These Macanese baked goods fresh and delicious made with quality ingredients. Even just by standing outside, buttery aroma will definitely lure you to ‘Kam In’ the shop and request for a little taste.
Must try: Bicho bicho, Alua, Macanese Almond Biscuit.
Address: Alua e Comidas Portuguesa "Kam In", 105 Rua Central, Macao.
All the three food places mentioned above are shown in my video. Check it out for more visual of the food and the places I've been in Macao!
In my previous article, I wrote about how I got to Macao from Hong Kong using the World's Longest Sea-Crossing Bridge-Tunnel System, a.k.a took a bus that drove across the sea. Check it out here. It's a cheaper alternative to taking a ferry from Hong Kong to Macao!
