#1 Hakkoda Mountains, Aomori
At the Hakkoda Mountains, beautiful red and yellow autumn foliage of Japanese maple and rowan can be seen during fall. Many visitors come during the peak coloring season at the end of September through October. The Hakkoda Ropeway allows visitors to climb the summit of Tamoyachidake peak of North Hakkoda, an elevation of 1320 meters (4330 feet). The view from the ropeway is superb. On a clear sunny day, one can see as far as the Tsugaru plains, Mutsu Bay, and even Hokkaido. More info here.

#2 Hakone, Kanagawa
Famous for its hot springs, Hakone is also one of the most famous places for seeing autumn leaves. Visited primarily by Tokyoites seeking an escape from the bustling city, the area is blessed with natural beauty and stunning scenery. During fall, Hakone's foliage turns spectacular orange and red hues. A few spots to catch the fall foliage in Hakone are Gora Park, Hakone Museum of Art, Lake Ashinoko, Choanji, and the Hakone Tozan Railway. More info here.

#3 Kashi Ohashi Bridge, Fukushima
Also known as Yukiwari Bridge, the Kashi Ohashi Bridge stretches for 199m against a backdrop of mountains, colored with bright red leaves. This picturesque red bridge hangs above the Abukuma River, making the red, orange, yellow, and green autumn hues that surrounds the bridge a fantastic view. More info here.

#4 Hakusan Shirakawago White Road, Kanazawa
The Hakusan Shirakawago White Road is a 33.3 km long paved toll road sections between 600 and 1,450 meters above sea level which connects World Heritage site Shirakawago and Ishikawa Prefecture's Hakusan city, ideal for sightseeing in the area. this area is blessed with many natural treasures including waterfalls of all sizes, beautiful valley scenery and a virgin forest of beech trees.
