#1 Berggasthaus Rotsteinpass
From Wasserauen (Appenzell Railway terminus), the path climbs first through forest, then scattered copses; it passes pretty Lake Seealpsee en route to Meglisalp, a sleepy little Alpine farming village. You then continue past the lakelet of Oberchellen, zig-zagging up to the Rotstein Pass. If you have a head for heights, an alternative route is the Alpine ridge hike from Säntis to the Rotstein Pass, where precarious sections are secured with chains for a memorable adventure.
#2 Hotel Pilatus-Kulm, Kriens
Located on the route: from Drachenberg to Tomlishorn. In only 20 minutes, one can do a brief tour around the Oberhaupt or climb the Esel in a quarter of an hour. A 45 minute hike will bring visitors to the Tomlishorn, the furthest peak. Here the views are colossal: not only can one see mountains ranging from the Glarus to the Central Swiss Alps, one can also glimpse the Bernese Oberland peaks and the Diablerets, Schrattenfluh, Napf, Jura and the Black Forest.
#3 Griesalp Hotels, Kiental
Located on the route: Crowing leg of the Bia Alpina. Along the Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO World Heritage Site from Kiental valley across Hohtürli pass (2778 m) into Kandertal valley.
#4 Hotel Walserhuus Sertig, Davos
Located on the route: across the Graubunden Alps. This two-day route features a lot of highlights – the first being the special valley it takes you through right at the start. The Sertig Valley is idyllically located above Davos and is dotted with rustic Walser villages. Two mountain lakes behind the Sertig Pass are ideal for taking a cold dip in before continuing along the trail to the nearly SAC hut. When spending the night in the hut, you should definitely step outside and take a look at the star-studded sky, which is unbelievable!
#5 Kurhaus Bergün, Bergün
Begin the loop around Mont Pélerin at the mountain station of the cable-car Vevey - Mont Pélerin. But before starting, it is worth admiring the views from this promontory: the steep vineyards of the Lavaux fall off into glittering Lake Geneva, which sparkles all the more against the impressive backdrop of the Savoy Alps. Start hiking towards Mont-Cheseaux, crossing forests and meadows. Here is the switching point: continue along the other side of the mountain. The last part of the hike follows the Route de Praz Valey, which eventually winds back up at the mountain station. Whoever still has the energy may want to visit the actual mountain peak that is nearby.
