#4 Try Traditional Carving at Murakami Toyohachi Shouten
Enjoy a casual experience of Nikko carving known as Nikko-bori at an old shop which has preserved the carving skills of Nikko. Nikko carving uses a unique knife called a hikaki sword. Hikaki sword was originally a tool to scrape off old lacquer when rebuilding Toshogu. It is said that this tool has been improved for line engraving and has become the current shape. The hikaki sword is characterized by being able to express with a single line from a thin and delicate line to a thick and powerful line. The sculpture of sunlight carving contains a lot of expression by this hikaki sword.
