Nanta is a non-verbal performance originated from Korea. It comes with drama and a whole lot of comedy in the kitchen, thus, the name of the show Cookin’ Nanta. It first made its international debut in 1999 at Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where it received an award for best performance. Since then, it has shown in the UK, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan and etc.
We had the opportunity to watch it in Bangkok and here’s a list why we think you should catch this hilarious act too.
Sometimes, a pretty girl makes a show more interesting to watch. What more, a Korean chick. By the way, their cast changes after a certain period of time so be quick if you want to catch her in action.
You don’t need to understand Korean language to know what’s going on in this kitchen because their non-verbal movements and over-expressive facial expression is enough to make you laugh till you cry.
Part of the excitement of the show is about audience participations where you’ll find a surprise wedding ceremony and dumpling challenge. Heads up, if you get to be part of the show, you’ll get to keep what your get on stage as souvenirs!
Watching them turning knives and other kitchen utensils into musical instruments make us want to break into our dancing shoes in our own kitchen too. Their skills are absolutely astounding.
This is the highlight of the show where 5 drummers hit the climax with water and LED lights integrating Asian traditional tempos with a western performance style.
