#1 Check out the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx
We should always start with the most exciting part of the tour, visiting one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. he Great Sphinx is a large human-headed lion that was carved from a mound of natural rock. It is located in Giza where it guards the front of Khafra's pyramid. Nothing could ever replicate, or replace, the experience of a personal visit to Giza and the Sphinx.
#2 Visit Citadel of Saladin
Also knowns as Citadel of Cairo or the Mohamed Ali Citadel, it’s one of the most visited tourist attractions in Egypt. This place houses a number of mosques, including a famous one, the Mosque of Mohamed Ali. Most people love this place due to the deep history embedded in this location.
#3 Have a National Dish- Koshary
Koshary, a national dish of Egypt, is a dish made of rice, macaroni, and lentils and topped with chickpeas, onion, and a special tomato-vinegar sauce. It sounds heavy and it is – it is also known as a 'poor man’s dish' as the ingredients are staple items that could be found in any pantry. Now koshary is a cultural phenomenon with entire shops dedicated entirely to serving this delicious yet inexpensive meal.
#4 Visit Valley of Kings
Situated on the ancient site of Thebes, on Luxor's West Bank, the Valley of Kings is the ancient burial ground of many of Egypt's New Kingdom rulers. A truly impressive site! Once called the Great Necropolis of Millions of Years of Pharaoh, or the Place of Truth, the Valley of the Kings has 63 magnificent royal tombs.
There, you will find Tutankhamen’s tomb which was discovered almost intact in 1922 and the tomb of Ramses IV, among others. A ticket will allow you visiting 3 of the 63 tombs on site, except Tutankhamen’s tomb, which requires an additional ticket. Although the tomb alone is worth a visit, you will have to visit the Egyptian Museum in Cairo to see the treasures Tutankhamen was buried with.
#5 Sip the Sahlab
One of the most popular hot drinks is Sahlab. Sahlab is made from the starch found in the ground bulb of the orchid, Orchis mascula . The starch, which can be purchased in Egypt as a powdered mix, thickens the milk while giving it a unique flavor. However, it is more difficult to find Sahlab mix outside of the area. Sahlab serve in cups with the chopped pistachios and cinnamon as garnish. You may also sprinkle grated coconut on top.
