Before you head off to do some spooky socialising, you will want to make sure you look your bloodcurdling best! Here are some of the best places to get your Hallooween looks in Hong Kong.
Pottinger Street
Head straight to the cobblestone steps of Pottinger Street in Central, where green tin stalls will provide everything from face masks to feather boas to wigs to full-body gear. Just remember to check each stall and its prices to make sure you get the best deal!
Tai Yuen Street
Alternatively, get knick knacks, trinkets, accessories and even a costume or two at the bustling Tai Yuen Street stalls in Wan Chai. The streets are chockful of toys on any given day, and cater to special occasions like Christmas and Halloween. Happy shopping!
Causeway Bay
Causeway Bay is shopping heaven for Hongkongers, so be sure to find all the accessories you need to play the part on Halloween. Get inspired in the big malls or the side street stalls — or head straight to Matteo Party on Lockhart Road, a well-known costume store that provides a one-stop-shop solution.
Be sure to check out these creepy culinary delights that are a treat for the eyes and the palate! Befuddle your senses as you enjoy some painstakingly constructed plates that will somehow leave you wanting more.
Ham and Sherry
Ham and Sherry's Back Bar is serving drinks to die for this Halloween, including tipples like The Gravedigger, Corpse Reviver, and Pick Your Poison. Enjoy alongside the equally titillating Blood Croquettes, Chopped Heart Tartare. And in case you need more of a direct hit, executive chef Aaron Gillespie will be preparing Bloody Mary Syringes for every guest.
Ocean Park
Ocean Park: Halloween is always a hoot at Ocean Park, and this year is no exception. Enjoy a discombobulated meal inspired by the classic horror movie SAW at the Halloween Fest 2017 — this blockbuster franchise is one of the most profitable in the history of horror-movie-making. Other equally terrifying treats will also be served during this period. Meanwhile, don’t forget to enjoy the usual haunted attractions set up by the park each year.
Disney Halloween Time
If you are travelling to Hong Kong with the kids, Halloween will be the perfect thrill for the little ones. Disney’s most famous villains will come to life, hosting mystery dinners and leading magical lab experiments that will stretch the imagination. Disney’s most beloved characters will also gather in their Halloween costumes for a daily Main Street Parade. Dress up as your favourite characters and get a makeover from face-painting artists, and make sure to collect exclusive Halloween-themed merchandise only available at Hong Kong Disneyland. Disney Halloween Time runs from now to 31 October 2017.
Lan Kwai Fong Street Carnival
On Halloween weekend, the streets of Lan Kwai Fong (LKF) turn into a pedestrian-only party zone that lasts well into the night. Revellers dress up in all manner of costumes and gather streetside, in front of restaurants, bars and clubs offering food, drinks and plenty of music. It hands down the biggest Halloween celebration in Hong Kong every year! Bonus: if you can’t get enough of the real LKF, download the Monster Mash app for an exciting tile-matching game that takes places in a monster-filled, horror-tinged LKF.
Halloween Styloween: The Dance of Medusa Parade at Fashion Walk
A giant Medusa sculpture will be erupted to seduce and petrify shoppers at the Fashion Walk Main Block this October. The interactive structure will feature 3D optical illusion paintings and make use of facial recognition technology to engage with passersby as they browse for the latest fashions. On October 27, Medusa will take to the streets in a glorious dance parade that will be followed by a street party filled with craft beers and themed treats.
To discover the darker side of Hong Kong, you can sign yourself right up for a walking tour with one of the many operators in the city. To give you a taste of what you might learn on the walking tours: bustling Wan Chai was actually one of the first British settlements in the city, as well as a physical target for the Japanese army during World War II. Further down, Central and Western districts are also used to house many unseemly facilities such as slaughterhouses, incineration plants and even a smallpox hospital. The result? Lots of source material for tales from beyond. Find the details here!
