Remember the Golden Bridge held by giant stone hands picture that went viral? Well, I finally made my way there recently and thought I’d be spending most of my time there taking tons of insta-worthy pictures. How naive was I, there’s so much more to see in Ba Na Hills.
#1 Getting There Is Easy
Since Ba Na Hills is a tourist destination when visiting Da Nang, getting there is relatively easy. I had a private tour group to bring me there but you can google and try to find buses that goes directly to Ba Na Hills. If you are staying at the Grand Cititel Danang Hotel, there’s a Lotte Supermarket just 5 minutes away that provides shuttle bus services to Ba Na Hills. I highly recommend this hotel as it’s comfortable and convenient. Full review of the hotel here.
#2 Enjoy The Cable Car Ride
The cable car ride is about 20 minutes up to the first stop. If you are acrophobic, be mentally prepared. Otherwise, the view ride up is beautiful. You’ll be able to enjoy fresh air and see lush greeneries of the thick jungle.
#3 Chilly Weather
This hill is about 1500 metres above sea level, do expect it to be a little misty and chilly in the morning. Usually, by noon, the weather will warm up a little. Pack a jacket or a cardigan just in case it gets too cold for you.
#4 You Are Not Alone
As mentioned earlier, Ba Na Hills is a popular tourist spot, thus expect it to be crowded, very crowded, especially at the Golden Bridge. I was there early and it was really misty. As much as I loved the cool weather, mist is not great for pictures. However, this can be fixed by coming back a little later, when the weather has warmed up a little. But that aside, I underestimated how many people will be there too. The entire bridge (150-metre-long) was filled up till there were never ending ‘excuse me’ while I tried to slide myself through. It’s impossible to get a picture without having someone else photobombing your photo. Is it still worth visiting? Yes, I regret nothing as it was still nice to see the Golden Bridge with my own eyes.
#5 Allocate More Time At The French Village
After being there myself, I think the French Village has so much more to offer than the Golden Bridge. So, must visit the Golden Bridge of course, but allocate more time to enjoy the French Village. The French Village is located at the top of the hill and it was built in 1919 by the French colonists as a leisure destination for French tourists back then. Naturally, the architecture is inspired by the classical and romantic France with cobblestoned streets and medieval looking buildings. There are tons of restaurants and cafes, a huge beer corner, and a number of hotels too. If you want to have the full experience, feel free to stay a night or two.
#6 Fantasy Park Is Great For Kids
The other thing to do that other articles hyped about is the indoor entertainment zone on Ba Na Hills. However, I would only recommend the Fantasy Park if you have kids with you. It’s filled with exciting activities and games… that’s mostly for teens and kids. Props to them for building it well, the place looks great no doubt but the 29 metres Free-Fall Tower is not as heart dropping as some other free-fall towers that I’ve tried and the 4D Cinema is, well, like most other 4D cinemas. So, if you are a bunch of adults looking for some adrenaline, omit Fantasy Park and check straight into Alpine Coaster, one adventure that I wished I had the chance to try.
#7 Check Out Le Jardin D’Amour Gardens and Debay Wine Cellar
The two other places that I wished I have seen when in Ba Na Hills are the Le Jardin D’Amour Gardens and Debay Wine Cellar. Le Jardin D’Amour Gardens is home to 9 flower gardens and judging from the pictures, they are gorgeous. The Grape Garden is attached to the 100-year-old Debay Wine Cellar where you could enjoy a glass of bubbly buoyant wine served with grilled pork skewers while having a glimpse of fleeting aircrafts over the flower drenched mountain.
