We’ve come to know that TM is only planning to fix the Internet issue starting March 25, reading about this from The Star Online made us wonder why only starting to work on it after 3 weeks? I’m sure many of us have the same question. Here’s the article about the slow Internet speed from The Star Online:
Telekom Malaysia says work on fixing the slow Internet connection to the United States will only start on March 25 and will be completed on March 31, if it doesn’t face bad weather or unexpected issues.
It said the problem is due to a fault in the Asia Submarine Cable Express (ASE) system off Singapore. The ASE consists of six fibre cables of which TM owns two – named Cahaya Malaysia, the cables link Malaysia to North Asia and the United States.
However, it stressed: “We wish to highlight that the restoration works will be subject to weather and sea conditions, identification of the actual location of the fault and the challenges ahead – working at great sea depths and pressure”.
In the statement it said it has immediately taken pro-active steps by optimising its networks to reduce congestion and by diverting traffic to alternative routes.
Users should expect service degradation such as slow browsing speed and high latency while accessing international websites mainly hosted in the United States, North Asia and Europe.
TM said it will continue to update users on the progress of the restoration works via its official customer support accounts on Twitter (@TMConnects) as well as on Facebook at Everyone Connects.
Telcos Maxis and Digi have said they are not affected by the issue.
