Backpack packing is an art. It’s not as easy as trying to stuff in everything as quickly as possible and squeeze it tight with hope that the bag will be zipped up. Though, don’t worry, these things can be learned. So here are some tips.
Gather everything that you think you want to bring along and then arrange them in groups of
One – must take (eg: passport, first aid kit, shirts, etc)
Two – would like to take (inflatable neck pillow, different camera lens, etc)
Three – others (things that you haven’t got a clue about)
Have a good look at your must take group and start removing items that you think you can live without. Things like extra dresses, extra shoes, extra bikinis, etc. The have the bare minimum from each item and you should see your pile will start to reduce.
Manage your backpack. Here’s the rundown.
Sleeping bag – Easily accessible, usually have a place at the bottom of your backpack.
Pants and socks – Put it in a drawstring bag, it make it more organised so you know where to find one immediately when you need one.
T-shirts – Roll it like a Swiss roll, no questions ask.
Pack the top with towel and sarong. These will cover over everything and help pull the drawstring on top tighter without having things poking out and be an inconvenience. This is also great for times you want to quickly air your towel or sarong during pit stops.
