Sydney is known for hosting a series of fantastic festive events in the lead up to Christmas. Enjoy the spectacular Martin Place Christmas Tree, lit on November 26 by Santa and the Lord Mayor during an evening of festive fun from 6.30pm to 8.30pm with live music from Megan Washington and Taylor Henderson to name a few.

The city also comes alive with glorious music this festive season, beginning with Christmas on the Green, a free family concert taking place in Hyde Park on November 26, complete with a spectacular fireworks display.

Traditional choirs herald in the Christmas season, performing carols every Thursday evening from 26 November to 22 December in Pitt Street Mall. Carols in the City also perform daily in Martin Place from the 27 November right up to Christmas Eve.

Enjoy Australia’s largest free Christmas concert, Woolworths Carols in the Domain. This popular annual event features much-loved performers delivering all your festive favourites, near the beautiful surrounds of Royal Botanic Garden, on 18 December. 

Explore The Very Merry Christmas Rocks Markets from the December 2, held every Friday from 4pm to 8pm, for seasonal handmade gifts and delicious food.

You can also enjoy the Christmas Twilight Market at the heritage-listed Carriageworks on the 23 December where you will find fresh seasonal produce for your Christmas dinner as well as fantastic gifts for friends and family.

Christmas Day itself is one of the most peaceful days in the city and the ideal time to explore.

A popular attraction open on Christmas Day is Taronga Zoo, which can be found less than a 15 minute ferryride from the city. Revel in spectacular harbour views as you explore the beautiful grounds, home to over 300 species of animals. Get up close to unique Australian animals such as the echidna and platypus.
