Jumunjin Beach is a beautiful shallow beach with clear water and gorgeous blue sky. It’s located at the northern-most part of Gangneung, Gangwon Province. It’s also one of the shooting location for the popular K-Drama , where the main actress Eun Tak (played by Kim Go Eun) met Goblin (played by Gong Yoo) for the first time in the series.
This k-drama has definitely made Jumunjin Beach a very popular location for couples to visit and even recreate the iconic scene, where Eun Tak was holding buckwheat flowers and wore a huge red scarf.
We’ve been there, done that and here’s what we’ve learnt from this experience:
So you’ve got yourself to Gangneung’s Jumunjin Beach and parked along the highway by the beach (because that’s what we saw everyone did). Little did you know, there are at least five man made breakwater available and they all look pretty much the same. To be honest, even if you recreated the scene on a different breakwater, most of us probably can’t tell the difference.
However, if you would like to walk on the actual breakwaters that was shot in Goblin, just look out for a huge TV-looking signboard (you won’t miss it) and you’ll know that’s the right breakwater.
Before visiting this place, we’ve seen many sources stated that there’s usually a queue just to recreate the photo. We were there last month and can testify that this is in fact true. Interestingly, the queue also applies to a few other breakwaters aside from the actual shooting location. There’s nothing much you can do about this apart from be nice and wait in line.
If you didn’t bring your own red scarf and buckwheat flower, no worries because there are people there who will loan them to you for 1000won each. So, in total 2000won for a huge red scarf and a fake plastic buckwheat looking flower. Plus, there’s even a “photographer”, basically a guy to help you take your pictures with your own camera. Judging by the way he “moves” (lols xD) and guides you, he’s probably now an expert at framing the perfect shot, assisting you to recreate the picture. We kid you not, he seems pretty good at it.

However, if you are interested in recreating the scene where Goblin holds a black umbrella, do bring your own as it didn’t seem like they have them there.
The walkway of the breakwater is uneven with holes everywhere that are filled with water. Plus, you’ll have to walk on sand to get to the walkway. Wear comfortable shoes that can withstand the mentioned conditions and you will be fine.
