Henn-na Hotel in Nagasaki, Japan is a hotel being controlled by approximately 80 robots and 10 people behind the scene to supervise security and cleaning. Henn-na is translated to strange and what so weird about this hotel, other than the fact that it’s being staffed with robots, are the thought on being served by a robo-dinosaur!
Some of the robots look like human while others look like actual robots. It’s interesting that there’s no room key available in this hotel because it uses a facial recognition system to open your room door. Also, inside, the air-conditioning responds to your body temperature and room facilities can be controlled from a tablet.
Guess what? Each room comes with your very own robotic room concierge. It’s a small lamp-sized character named Tuly who tells you about the weather, help with lighting control as well as setting the alarm. Who need to carry their own bag these days, everyone in this hotel seem to get help from a friendly robot arm to store their bags.
The hotel is located in the grounds of Huis Ten Bosch, a theme park designed to bring The Netherlands to Japan with the recreation of Dutch towns and old Dutch buildings. The park was opened in 1992 as an “Eco-Friendly Future City” and Henn-na Hotel ambitioned to continue that tradition in its design to maximise efficiency by reducing electricity and waste while making a stay in one of its rooms an enjoyable experience for visitors.
So far, there are 72 rooms available with another 72 will be ready in 2016. The price starts from 7,000 yen, which is rather affordable to budget travellers. For more information, viist Henn-na Hotel website.
