LOCAL STUDENT ROCKED IT & LANDED A RECORDING DEAL

Battle of the Bands competition

The three-series Battle of the Bands was first initiated by Laundry Bar in March 2015, to provide local community of independent musicians with the opportunities to be seen and recognized within the local music scene and help drive Malaysian music to greater heights. The competition saw a group of talented performers from various genre of music, competing for the winner’s title, with a panel of local music industry professionals scoring and reviewing each band based on the performance, originality, audience reaction and overall energy.

The second series of Laundry’s Battle of the Bands competition crowned the 19-year-old UTM student, Resya Rahman, as the official grand prize winner. Backed up by a group of talented young musicians, Resya Rahman’s dynamic and lively stage presence as a performer, won the hearts of the judges and landed her on the number one spot. Her deep, husky voice compliments the music arrangements well, and the soulful quality of her tone adds more depth to the music. Although she is relatively new in the music competition scene, performing is not something unfamiliar to her, as she has participated in a number of local gigs and college shows.

The grand prize winner was awarded with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of a one-track recording deal by Pulse Soundworks - inclusive of producing, recording and promotion of the track, a RM1,000 Vans cash voucher sponsored by Vans Malaysia, a Cort G200 Electric Guitar from The Guitar Store, as well as a Rotosound guitar strings for each member of the band, drum sticks courtesy of Heartbeat Drumstick, Chaswood food vouchers worth RM300 and exclusive t-shirts and hoodies from Free Range Concept for each member of the band. Resya Rahman and her band will also be playing an exclusive live gig at the annual Laundry Music Marathon where they will be part of the lineup that will be performing on the same stage as other top local music bands.
