The idea was to start a charity campaign that speaks from the heart. To share personal experiences from one woman to another. Neubodi launched their charity campaign “Old Bras For Cash”, 25th September until 2nd November, and their goal was to collect 10,000 old bras but little did they expect the strong response from the women in Malaysia. In came a flood of old bras into all their specialty stores across Malaysia, and within one and a half months, Neubodi managed to collect about 11,037 bras in total.
Once the campaign ended, it took the Neubodi team four days and four nights to separate the good condition bras from the ill-fitting bras. Some bras had to be altered and others were just past their “life-expentacy”. In the end, only 2,441 old bras were deemed fit to be laundered and shipped to Nepal. Thus, began the Neubodi x Uplift Charity Trail to Nepal with the support of Air Asia X --- six days trail, nine women, 11 cartons of old bras, four rural villages to meet 400 Nepali women whom never own a piece of bra ever in their life.
The single most needed item on a woman is a bra. There are many things we ladies simply take for granted, and our bras are definitely one of them. While women in Malayisa routinely trash out their old bras when they buy a new one, the women in Nepal simply suffers from continous backaches and sores from carrying their weight through their daily labour work.
Currently, 27 million men, women and children are being held as slaves around the world. 80% of those slaves are women and girls, many of which suffer as victims of sex trafficking. With this, Neubodi aims to use it’s strong platform as a lingerie brand in Malaysia to help the phlight of these women. What more, a further surplus of these used bras can allow women to start a business in the second-hand clothing market, allowing them to earn a steady income of USD 3-5 a day, which is x5 times the minimum wage in their community!
