【NEW YORK CITY】WINTER OUTING BEST 10 BROADWAY SHOWS

1. Aladdin

Type: Musical & Kid-Friendly
Runtime: 2 hours 30 minutes
Disney's Broadway adaptation of the movie brings the fantastical world of streetwise hero Aladdin, his love Princess Jasmine, his evil nemesis Jafar and his magical sidekick the Genie to the Great White Way. With beloved songs from the film's acclaimed soundtrack, this high-energy, visually stunning musical is directed by The Book of Mormon's Casey Nicholaw and features Major Attaway as the Genie and Telly Leung as Aladdin.

2. Anastasia

Type: Musical & Kid-Friendly
Runtime: 2 hours 25 minutes
Based on the two 20th Century Fox films about the real-life story of Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna, this Broadway musical tells the tale of a brave young woman’s attempt to uncover the mysteries of her past. It features a score from the Tony Award–winning team of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime, Once On This Island), who wrote many of the songs for the 1997 animated film, including “Once Upon A December” and “Journey to the Past.”

3. Frozen

Type: Musical & Kid-Friendly
Runtime: 2 hours 15 minutes
Disney’s epic fairy tale of sister princesses saved by love makes the leap from the silver screen to the Great White Way. Tony winner Michael Grandage (Red, Ivanov, The Chalk Garden) directs with a host of new songs from Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, the husband and wife duo who penned the hits from the now-classic animated movie. Tony and Emmy winner Rob Ashford (Evita, The Sound of Music Live!) handles the choreography, and Caissie Levy (Wicked) and Patti Murin (Xanadu) co-star as royal siblings Elsa and Anna.   

4. The Lion King

Type: Musical & Kid-Friendly
Runtime: 2 hours 30 minutes
More than 95 million people around the world have come to discover the thrill, the majesty, the truly one-of-a-kind musical that is The Lion King. And there's no better place to experience this landmark entertainment event than in the city where it all began. Visit the Minskoff Theatre, in the heart of Times Square, and discover the pride of New York.

5. King Kong

Type: Musical
Runtime: 2 hours 30 minutes
The cinema’s greatest ape comes to Broadway in this production originally launched in Australia. British playwright Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) adapts the movie into a musical, whose biggest star is a 20-foot tall robotic gorilla controlled by a team of puppet masters. Director and choreographer Drew McOnie (Strictly Ballroom, In the Heights) joins forces with composer Marius de Vries (Moulin Rouge, La La Land) and Australian songwriter Eddie Perfect (Beetlejuice The Musical) for the latest take on this classic tale. And you can expect a cameo from the Empire State Building too.

6. The Phantom of Opera

Type: Musical & Kid-Friendly
Runtime: 2 hours 30 minutes
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most famous creation, based on a popular French novel, is the longest-running musical on Broadway. Night after night, audiences are moved and awed by this ghost story with a heart, a darker version of Beauty and the Beast, in which a deformed musical genius gives voice lessons to a struggling singer, falls in love and attempts to force her to return his feelings. The passionate music, suspenseful plot twists and spooky ambiance of the show leave a lasting impression.

7. Pretty Woman: The Musical

Type: Musical
Runtime: 2 hours 25 minutes
A modern cinematic classic—and quintessential Cinderella story—gets a musical makeover for the Broadway stage. Edward, a successful businessman, and Vivian, an escort with a heart of gold, unexpectedly find romance after spending a weekend together. Tony nominee Andy Karl (Groundhoug Day) and Samantha Barks (from the film adaptation of Les Misérables) star as the fairytale couple, with the show helmed by Tony-winning director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell (La Cage aux Folles, Kinky Boots) with music by rocker Bryan Adams (“Summer of ’69,” “I Do It for You”).

8. The Band's Visit

Type: Musical & The winner of 10 Tony Awards including Best Musical
Runtime: 1 hour 30 minutes
Winner of 10 Tony Awards (including Best Musical), The Band’s Visit tells the story of an Egyptian band that travels to Israel to perform a concert. After a mix-up at the bus station, the band ends up in a remote village where locals take them in and their lives become intertwined in ways they never expected. Based on the critically acclaimed 2007 film of the same name, the show is directed by David Cromer and features a cast which won two of the top Tony acting awards; Ari'el Stachel and Katrina Lenk.

9. My Fair Lady

Type: Musical & The winner of 10 Tony Awards- 2018’s Outer Critics Circle, Drama Desk and Drama League Award Winner for Best Musical Revival
Runtime: 2 hours 55 minutes
Lerner & Loewe’s My Fair Lady returns to Broadway for the first time in 25 years. Bartlett Sher, the Tony-winning director behind Lincoln Center Theater’s revivals of South Pacific and The King and I, directs. Classic songs like “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “The Rain in Spain” and “Get Me to the Church on Time” are just a few of the highlights of this timeless musical.

10. The Prom

Type: Musical 
Runtime: 2 hours 15 minutes
When four washed-up Broadway stars hear about trouble brewing in a small Indiana town where two girls want to go to prom together, they join the fight for what’s right in this new musical comedy with a big dose of dance. Directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon, Mean Girls), The Prom stars Tony award nominee Brooks Ashmanskas (Something Rotten!), Tony Award winner Beth Leavel (The Drowsy Chaperone) and two-time Tony Award nominee Christopher Sieber (Shrek) leading a cast of 27.
