30 minutes by train from Sendai Station and 3 minutes walk from JR Ogawara Station or Funaoka Station, there’s an area called “Hitome Senbonzakura” in Ogawara Town. It means “1000 Sakura trees at a glance”. This place, you’ll get to enjoy a magnificient view of cherry trees along with snow-covered Mt. Zao at the background. They also hold annual Sakura Festival where they’ll have street stalls along the road.

Near the area of Hitome Senbonzakura, there’s a castle where Shibata lived until the Meiji Restoration and its famous for being one of the top Cherry Blossom spots in the Northeast. It also has two other must visit location within the area, the Funaoka Peace Kannon and the Community Garden Flower Hill Shibata. It’s about 15-20 minutes walk from Funaoka Station and best visit when they have the Shibata Cherry Blossom Festival every year in April.

According to history, the feudal lord Date Tsunamura, the fourth gen. samurai leader of the Date family, planted about 1000 sakura cherry blossom trees here about 300 years ago. Now, when spring comes, many will come together and enjoy picnic in the park under these cherry trees. It’s only about a minute walk from Tsutsujihaoka station of JR Senseki line.

This park has been listed in Japan’s 100 best cherry blossom spots. There’s over a thousand cheery trees located on the hillside of the park. Great for picnics during the spring cheery blossom season. It’s 10-15 minutes walk north from Ohori Koen Station.
