Just because you’ve eaten a taco or a burrito doesn’t mean you know Mexican food. Nope, sorry, Chili’s Grill & Bar Restaurant is a Tex-Mex-style cuisine, so it doesn’t count. Here are 7 ways to find out if you have never eaten real Mexican food.
A real Mexican taco is way different from an International one. In Mexico, you’ll never find sour cream, cheddar, flour tortilla (or corn shell), and lettuce in one plate.
Unfortunately, burritos in Mexico are not originally humongous in size. Authentic Mexican burritos are usually small and thin with flour tortillas containing only one or two ingredients. Even the word burrito itself means “little donkey” in Spanish. Thus, big-ass burrito is really an American thing.
Mole is pronounced as “mo-lay” while Pozole is pronounced as “po-sol-i”. Yup, these are a few of the most popular dishes Mexican people eat.
Flour tortillas are quite common in northern Mexico and used widely to make quesadillas for supper, they are actually not considered to be in the book of Mexican cuisine. Try finding a restaurant that serves fresh-made corn tortillas.
Guess what? You can’t really find a Margarita outside tourist destination in Mehico. Here we are, holding one with a sombrero on our head. How silly that looks.
As scarce as Margaritas. Even if you find one, they are usually soupy with lime and tomatoes instead of chunks or pureed avocado.
Most salsas in Mexico are extremely hot, as in spicy kind of hot while International kinds taste like tomato.
