WELCOME TO PARIS! Transfer from airport to hotel and free time to explore before meeting your guide and fellow travellers.
You will receive information about the start of the circuit during the afternoon, or you can check the informative panels in the hotel reception area.
NOTE: IF YOU REQUESTED ADDITIONAL NIGHTS on arrival at the hotel you will have your booking made but the guide of your trip will normally not arrive until the start of the included activities. YOUR TIME BEFORE THIS MOMENT IS THEREFORE FREE AT OWN LEISURE. At your hotel they can help you with all the information you need. | The schedules you will find in this itinerary are approximate. TODAY’S HIGHLIGHTS: Transfer to Versailles Palace. Funicular ride included to Montmartre district. City tour in Paris.
Versailles – We include the entrance to the Palace of Versailles (long waits for tickets due to influx on some occasions). Immense Palace that belonged to the French kings; a good way to get acquainted with the culture and history of France.
Upon returning to Paris we head to Montmartre and taking a small cable car (included) we go up to this bohemian artists neighborhood to see the Basilica of the Sacred Heart and take a walk through its square and alleys.
With a local guide we will begin the city tour of Paris lasting 2 and a half hours. During the visit you will be able to see the Arc de Triomphe, Champs Elysées, Madelaine, Place de la Concorde, Opera, Louvre Museum, Tower St. Jacques, town hall, Ile de la Cite with the Notre Dame cathedral, Latin quarter, Pantheon, Sorbonne, Luxembourg gardens, Invalides, Military School, Champ de Mars-Eiffel Tower, banks of the Seine. We will make brief stops near the Invalides and the Champ de Mars.
At the end of the city tour, we will return to the hotel, making a stop in the city center, so that people who still want to take advantage of their free time in Paris can get off the bus.
In the end of this very complete day, optionally, the guide will suggest you attend a cabaret or variety show in the evening, the Moulin Rouge or the Paradis Latin.
NOTE: Due to the tourist complexity of Paris, the order of the services offered in the city may vary. | if your trip coincides in Paris with the first Sunday of the month, in Versailles, only the gardens will be visited.
TODAY’S HIGHLIGHTS: Eiffel Tower and boat cruise in the City of Lights.
We go to the center of Paris, starting by the Eiffel Tower area. You will have the opportunity to go up to the second floor of this remarkable metal monument (ticket included). Then, we enjoy a boat cruise along the River Seine which lasts approximately an hour and fifteen minutes, which divides the north of Paris from the south. Enjoy a free afternoon to explore as you choose.
NOTE: In some cases the waits to go up the Eiffel Tower are long. Thus the climb may take place at a different time (or on Sunday), if it is considered convenient for organizational reasons.
TODAY’S HIGHLIGHTS: Vineyards in Beaune and Bourgogne region. Funicular climb in Lyon.
Today we travel to the center of France, to the Bourgogne region, famous for its wines. We will visit BEAUNE, located in the center of the Bourgogne region, with its streets full of flowers, hospice and wine museum all points of interest. Continuing on, we will arrive to LYON in the afternoon, the capital of Roman Gallia on the banks of the Rhône (its historic center has been declared a World Heritage site). We include a cable car climb to Notre Dame de Fourvière, where we have a great view of the city. Enjoy some leisure time to walk around.
NOTE: In some cases a part of the group will be accommodated in Chambery, a city near Lyon. In these cases we will leave at the evening for CHAMBERY and accommodation. We will then have some time early in the morning to visit the capital of Saboya, a medieval-style city with beautiful historic center and a large castle.
TODAY´S HIGHLIGHTS: Switzerland with Lakes and Mountains landscapes. Olympic Park. Chocolate factory.
We travel to Switzerland. GENEVA, arrival. With our guide, we will go to the Palace of Nations (the headquarters of the United Nations in Europe) to the pretty English Garden with its clock made of flowers and we can admire the “Jet d´Eau”, the tallest fountain in Europe.
Then we go on to the LAUSANNE, where the International Olypmic Committee was founded in 1984 and has hosted its headquarters ever since. We will stop at the Olympic Park, on the shores of the lake, an iconic spot dedicated to spots and Olympic culture.
After this, we will continue to the picturesque walled village of GRUYERES, known worldwide for its cheese. Nearby this area there are several of the main chocolate factories in Switzerland located (NESTLE amongst them), and we visit the Cailler chocolate factory, with a tasting included!
We will continue travelling through smaller roads amidst bucolic mountain landscapes and very picturesque wooden villages. Arrival in FRIBOURG, a bilingual French / German city with a charming old town.
NOTE: Due to the limited number of hotel options in Fribourg, sometimes accommodation will be in a nearby alternative city.
TODAY´S HIGHLIGHTS: Mountain scenery with spectacular views of year-round snow-capped peaks and beautiful lakes. Entrance to Aareschlucht gorge.
Departure from FRIBOURG, we will take a scenic route and have a photo stop, either at Schwarzenburg Castle or at a viewpoint over Lake Thun or Lake Brienz, depending on accomodation.
Stop for a stroll in INTERLAKEN and then we travel to the AARE GORGE. Admission will be included to walk along the pathways and tunnels of this stunning 200-meter-deep, 1.4km-long gorge carved into limestone by the Aar River. Lunch will be included.
We then take the Sutenpass, one of the most beautiful roads in Switzerland that runs between glaciers and takes us to Italian-speaking Switzerland, crossing the famous 17 km-long Gotthard of Tunnel.
Brief stop in charming village - Gandria which known for its traditional architecture. Afterwards we will board a boat (Ticket Included) for a cruise on the lake to Lugano. Don't forget to bring some warm clothing for the boat ride to enjoy the experience on deck.
Arrival in Lugano, we will have a free time to explore this major financial hub and popular tourist destination, famous for its mild climate, lakeside promenade, parks and vibrant cultural life.
Overnight stay in CHIASSO, a Swiss town on the border with Italy.
NOTE: The Sustenpass road is normally closed due to snow until the end of May and since mid-October. In this case the journey will be made by alternative roads (May travel via the Brünig Pass). In winter, the Aareschlucht Falls are closed, then will change to visit the charming towns of Brienz and Meiringen instead. Occasionally, accomodation maybe in the metropolitan area of Como.
TODAY’S HIGHLIGHTS: Beautiful landscapes with mountains and lakes. Visit of Bellinzona and Lucerne. Visit the village that was made famous through William Tell.
After breakfast, we will depart for Bellinzona, the capital of Italian-speaking Switzerland, renowned for its three medieval castles which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Time to stroll. We continue on the highway, crossing the St. Gotthard Pass and stop for a photo.
Our next stop will be Altdorf, the capital of the Uri canton, known as the birthplace of William Tell and one of the founding cantons of independent Switzerland. We will have free time to enjoy lunch.
Continue to LUCERNE, free time to explore this beautiful city by the lake that bears its name. We will suggest, optionally, to take the cruise on the Lake of the Four Cantons, considered one of the most beautiful lakes in Switzerland.
TODAY’S HIGHLIGHTS: Baroque Abbey. Heidi’s Village. Journey through beautiful landscapes.
We leave Lucerne driving along the Four Cantons Lake towards EINSIEDELN, its immense baroque abbey is the most important pilgrimage center in Switzerland. After that we continue towards the East of Switzerland. MAIENFELD is the village which inspired Heidi’s story. In HEIDIDORF we will be visiting Heidi’s House (ticket not included. Entry to the facility is free), a picturesque place with beautiful landscapes that we will reach through a pedestrian path. Then we enter into the independent country of LIECHTENSTEIN, and its capital city VADUZ with its impressive castle. Time to stroll and have lunch.
Subsequently, we go to the neighbor city of FELDKIRCH, in Austria, located next to the borders of Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Germany: charming walled city with a genuine historic city center and a castle. Free time.
NOTE: Make sure you wear comfortable walking shoes for exploring the meadows of Heidi’s village. Remember to bring Euros for your time in Feldkirch, a little town in Austria near the Swiss border where we’ll be staying the night
TODAY’S HIGHLIGHTS: Constance Lake. Botanic Gardens. Rhein Waterfalls. Fantastic scenery.
We start our day heading to ST. GALLEN, whose center is part of the World Heritage List by UNESCO with a wonderful cathedral and its historic center. We will include admission to the library of its magnificent abbey, featuring a baroque hall that houses 170,000 volumes and the Egyptian mummy of Schepenese. The library is also UNESCO World Heritage Site. Afterwards we will continue by Constance Lake, between Germany and Switzerland. We will have time for a walk at Constance’s center.
Then, again in Switzerland, we will take a stroll in STEIN AM RHEIN, a typical village on the Rhine River with precious houses with painted walls. We will also visit Rhine Waterfalls (entry included), the waterfalls with the most abundant flow in Europe. We recommend an optional boat ride that will make you feel like you can almost touch the cascading waters. Arrival in ZURICH at the end of the day.
TODAY’S HIGHLIGHTS: Boat trip across Zurich lake. Journey by train.
With our guide, we will have a tour of ZURICH, the most populated city of Switzerland, and the country’s financial and cultural capital. The city of the banks has twice been declared the city with the best quality of life in the world. Afterwards, we will include a cruise of almost two hours on Lake Zurich. The boat makes brief stops to allow us to see the villages on the way. We get off in RAPPERSWIL, a picturesque little village overlooked by its mediaeval castle. We go back to Zurich by train and appreciate the efficiency and punctuality of the Swiss railways.
NOTE: Our stage today is different; we travel across Lake Zurich by boat and return by train. The transfers from the hotel to the center may also be done on public transport (depending on the total number of participants). The indicated timetables of the boat we use may change (the itinerary may be adapted accordingly).
After breakfast, end of our services. Hotel standard check out time 10am.
